Our Road to Zero

Daver Steels: Getting Greener

Daver Steels is proud to be one of the smallest companies that holds membership to the BCSA. The British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) is the trade body for UK & Irish Steelwork Contractors and the wider structural steelwork supply chain. To help reduce the industry’s environmental impact, the BCSA & its members have committed to becoming Net Zero by 2050. Daver Steels set an ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Our team is passionate about lessening the impact we have on the local and wider environment by adopting sustainable practices and responsibly sourcing environmentally friendly products were possible.

We will continue to look at ways of reducing waste & making efficiency savings throughout the business. Work has begun on achieving certification for ISO 14001 Environmental Management (EMS).

2022 saw Daver Steels making significant investment into improvements to our building, including the installation of over 550 solar panels onto the roof of the factory. These panels give us the capacity to generate a predicted 50% of our own electricity annual average, investing in our own on-site generation benefits the business in a number of ways, including charging our growing EV fleet.

In combination with the 0% carbon for business energy tariff we have committed to, we are able to report zero carbon emissions for our electricity supply. With this acceleration, we believe Daver Steels are likely to have become carbon neutral by 2025, if not before!

Benefits of an electric vehicle fleet

As transport provides the largest proportion of UK carbon emissions at 26%, Daver Steels has prioritised the move to an EV fleet. The latest addition is our new Combilift C5000XLE Electric. As well as having a significantly smaller carbon footprint, the new model provides us with the power to lift an extra tonne, has far better visibility & the deep suspension seat does indeed provide a more comfortable drive, an added bonus on top of the fact that the noise levels in the yard are also reduced.

The electric Combilift requires charging most days, but emissions are reduced as we able to use our own source of renewable energy. Daver Steels currently has two other fully electric vehicles in the fleet, which are also charged onsite.
